FEMCO CNC Machine Tools
FEMCO (Far
East Machine Co. www.femcousa.com)
was founded in 1949 to manufacture bicycle wheel rims. This
led to the development of proprietary machine tools for more efficient
production, and eventually to their entry into the machine tool market.
In the USA for many years, FEMCO
is a full line company with an excellent reputation for simple, rugged
and reliable machine tools using FANUC control systems. Below are
examples:
FEMCO is famous for the unique patented "Durga" turret design featuring dual disc turrets for 23 total stations (OD inner disc, ID outer disc). The HL-25 lathe won an award in Taiwan in 1995 called "Symbol of Excellence". Models range from the HL-25 (2.04 bar/9.8 turn dia.) to the HL-65 (4.5bar/25.6 turn dia, short bed machine).

CNC Horizontal Boring Mills (BMC) available in several sizes for industries for which an HMC is not the correct machine for their applications and larger parts. Typical applications include the industrial valve industry that needs all the machining ability of an HMC, but have need for a boring ram to reach internal recesses in the valve bonnets.

Often used in oil industry, power generation equipment manufacturing, industrial valve industry, large gear industry, and the manufacture of off-road mining and construction equipment. The VL-12 has a maximum swing diameter of 63", a 5-ton loading capacity, and a working height of 49.5".

Most of that high volume work has shifted to the Asian countries, but the machines are available in the USA for applications that simulate that need: large swing, short bed.
